Transferring to Secondary School
You must apply for a secondary school place for your child to start year 7 at secondary school. You will need to do this when your child is in year 6 at primary school.
The application process is now open and you will need to apply before 31st October 2025.
Applications for 2026
For children starting year 7 in September 2026 applications opened on Monday 1st September and will close on Friday 31st October 2025.
You can apply for up to 4 schools.
- Put the schools in the order of preference.
- It’s in your best interest to list 4 schools.
- Naming only one school does not guarantee your child a place at that school or give priority for a place over another child.
- You are not able to name the same school more than once.
Applications are processed between 1st November 2025 and 1st March 2026

The local secondary schools all hold Open Events for you to take your child(ren) along to view what their school has to offer and you and and your child can have a look around and get a feel for each school before you make your decision. National Offer Day Offers of school places sent to parents via email after 4.00pm.

Monday 16th March 2026 |
Parents should contact the school to accept/refuse the place that has been offered and can use the link in the offer email to ask for their child to be added to the waiting list of eligible schools named on the original application.

Monday 30th March 2026 |
Appeals need to be lodged by this date to be heard before September – appeals information can be found at www.kent.gov.uk/schoolappeals. You can only appeal for schools that were named on the application form.

Secondary Admissions Booklet 2025
KENT TEST - 2026 entry
Applications for the secondary school intake of September 2026 will open in September 2025.
You will be able to name up to 4 secondary school preferences. A Kent grammar school can only consider your child for a place if you have named it on your application and your child has been tested and assessed suitable for admission.
To be assessed for grammar school you will need to register your child to sit the Kent Test. Registration is now open and you can apply here: https://kent.cloud.servelec-synergy.com/Synergy/Admissions.aspx
Please note that the deadline for registrations is midnight Tuesday 1 July 2025 and you will not be able to apply after this date.
Assessment is normally done through testing during the autumn term. This year, the tests are due to take place on Thursday 11th September 2025 for pupils in Kent primary schools.
