Hey parents,
Reading is back! And we have a huge brand-new collection of books to interest, intrigue, and get our children hooked on reading!
All children have had their reading level assessed and an appropriate book allocated.
We expect all children to read at home every night. This would, ideally, be aloud with a parent/carer/sibling/family member. However, we understand this is not always possible, in which case the children can read alone and record themselves.
How to record:
If a child has read to you, please mark in the name of the book and the pages read. Feel free to leave a small comment about how they got on or even just a word of encouragement. Then sign somewhere in the box.
If a child reads alone they will be expected to write a very brief summary of what happened in the pages they read.
There are no free-readers yet, as our new range of books now go up to stage 20 and have excellent challenge for our more passionate readers. They will have the opportunity to move through the stages quickly by proving they can read at home consistently.
We believe that an ability to read fluently and with strong understanding has a huge positive effect on the rest of their learning and their school journey.
We will be running reward schemes for consistent readers.
Thanks for your help with this!
Mr Wilson
